Arthritis

Arthritis is an inflammation of one or more joints. Joint pain and stiffness are the main symptoms of arthritis. There are different types of arthritis which can affect specific areas.

Symptoms:

  • Joint Pain
  • Stiffness
  • Swelling
  • Redness
  • Warmth
  • Decreased range of motion

Common causes:

  • Wear-and-tear damage to cartilage can result in bone grinding on bone
  • The body's immune system attacking the joints

Risk Factor:

  • Family history - although genetics do not cause arthritis, genetics may increase susceptibility to environmental factors that trigger arthritis
  • Age -incidence increases with age
  • Previous joint injury - an injured joint is more likely to eventually develop arthritis
  • Obesity - excess weight put stress on joints
